Frye says of Satan, ěHis constant armor is
hate, and his design the spread of enmity between man and man, and God and man.
His own hatred is all-inclusive: he curses the love of God and then
proceeds to curse himself, for his hatred of others is inextricably involved
with the hatred of himself.î (Pg. 32, Frye. God, Man and Satan)
Although
Satan claims that ělove and hateî (4:69) are equal to him, he must be able
to in some way differentiate between them.
For upon seeing the light of the sun, he was reminded of Heaven and all
its glory. In that glory he also
must have been reminded of the love he once had in Heaven, and he started to
miss what Heaven once offered him, and began to feel remorseful.
