The alliteration and change of meter when Satan proclaims ìMe Miserableî (4:73) only emphasizes his feeling even more.  For the first time one might actually be able to feel and sense the pain Satan is experiencing around him as well as within him.  Satan is not entirely self-centered.  He is just like any other angel or man who has a moment where they wish they were better than somebody else.  Satan just chooses to act upon it, and he winds up in a state of misery and Hell.  Satan knows his faults and he knows what he did wrong, but to keep his dignity and pride he must not admit to it.   He must now choose between Heaven and a state of glory or keeping his pride and remaining in total misery.

Satan is now feeling the consequences of his actions, as well as the impendent decision of choosing good over evil.  The agony one may be able to sense in Satanís questioning is a good implication that although he went against God in a self-fulfilling state, that he actually misses the place he most desperately wanted to get out of.  Maybe his ìsufferingî in Heaven wasnít as bad as he had thought considering the circumstances and pain he is in now.  Satan knows if he were to return to Heaven that it would only be a matter of time before he is back right where he is.  That known fact only adds to his misery for Satan knows no matter what his decision, he is going to end up exactly where he is right now, in misery.

"Lucifer's proud heart was the reason for his fall, and the Bible tells us he did indeed fall, and took some of the angels with him."  (Rev. 12:7-12)

As Ezekiel 28:12 tells us, Satan was "the model of perfection, full wisdom and perfect in beauty when he was created.  Yet neither he nor any of the other angels were given dominion over the earth initially.  Rather, Adam, a being Satan must have considered inferior to himself, was given this power.  It is easy to see why Satan's pride led him to sin."
