Understood not all was but a show Rather than solid virtue

These lines show that Adam is beginning to grasp the concept that possibly Eve’s deceitful act against he and God, and all that she supposedly cares for is a show.  That she really is sorry for what has happened.  Eve didn’t mean to torture Adam and make him feel that he has to have second thoughts about the way he has been seeing Eve lately.  Adam comes to comprehend that perhaps this is the natural moral way that Eve is.
