The Light Milton has evoked acts as God's 'messenger', of sorts; at his command, it brings forth the world from nothingness- its very light brightens and revives what was hitherto 'dark and deep'. Perhaps the Light be seen as somehow tied to life itself- after all, without its presence, the creation of all would have been impossible.
