Satan's pride and longing to have God's power ignited his
rebellion. He knew he could not do it alone so in order to recruit other angels he misrepresented God's motives. He made God look like a tyrant and he also made the other angels believe that he could become more powerful than God. Satan is now obligated to these fallen angels, because his lies got them into this mess. If he were to abandon them he would have no one to turn to except God. This would contradict all that he hoped to accomplish because he did not like having to listen to God.
He needs the other angels for support. Satan's thinking is warped, because his
rebellion was based on the belief that the angels could rise above God. However,
this is not possible, yet he continues to make them believe that they can get
revenge on God
Satan's rebellion itself was the ultimate vaunt. The fact that the thought he could defeat his creator was very arrogant. These vaunts have wounded Satan's pride because he could not deliver what he promised. These vaunts seduced the other angels, showing that they too were sinful and wanted to rebel against God.
vaunts- to speak boastfully 2. a boastful or ostentatious display.
Satan can never submit to God because the whole point of his rebellion was to defeat God. He is the heroic leader of the other fallen angels and must think of them. If he were to submit it would make those who followed him look foolish for having done so.
He is a leader who knows he is beaten but will remain stubborn to the very end.
