God saw that man was lonely, so He created a companion for him. To keep man company, God created a woman for him. The Bible tells us that God put Adam into a deep sleep and took a rib from Adam’s body. Woman was created from this rib. Adam was to take the woman, Eve, as his wife and cleave to her.

Milton uses this female as a major figure in Paradise Lost. He portrays the woman as gullible giving in to the serpent. Woman also is seen as bad, because she is the reason for the downfall of man. Adam only ate the fruit to share her fate.

When the word female is used, it comes from the Greek word that means woman, not involving any family role.  This means that the woman in this context is not under the man's control.  They are equals.
