"The essence of the image of God is not stated here, but dominion over all of creation is the functional result of bearing God's image.  Humans are to be God's visible representations, ruling creation as God would rule it.  In addition, the image of God points to their distinctive dignity- endowed with reason, moral self-consciousness, freedom of choice, imagination, immortality, and at least limited creativity." (The Open Bible, NKJ)

We know that God created man in his own image, but we don’t know what God’s physical image looks like. When Jesus came down on the earth, he came in the form of man. However, whenever God came down to earth, he never came in the form of man. He came as a storm, a shadow, a light, or another form of nature. Image does not only mean the physical image of a person.  God also gave us the ability to love; He gave us a soul.

1 Corinthians 15:49 - And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly

Genesis 1:27 - So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 9:6 - Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

2 Corinthians 4:4 - In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
