It might be interesting to note God's threat in the Bible. "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'You may eat freely of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die'" (Genesis 2:16-17). In other words, God threatened immediate death on the day the fruit was eaten, as opposed to Milton's God, who warned "inevitable" death - a death which may not happen right away, but will happen, and is unavoidable..
