The word “heart” here, takes on a double meaning, by implying that the words the serpent said went right into the heart of Eve. When we think of something that goes right into the heart, we think it goes right down to the core. It invades your mental functioning. The words are not really going into her heart, they’re going into her head. The serpent is flattering Eve. Usually when someone flatters a woman, we connect that with a feeling in our heart. It could be a feeling of love, or a feeling of happiness. Satan’s words were very appealing to Eve, as she listened to everything he said. Eve’s heart is already weak, and that’s why the words get there so easily. Satan doesn’t corrupt her heart on his own, Eve intentionally lets him.
