Eve is very surprised to hear the voice of the serpent. She now, has admiration towards him. In the words, “not unamazed,” Milton uses a double negative to make a positive. Eve is amazed because she has never seen anything like this before. This is significant because as the serpent is speaking, Eve is getting lost in his words. Her reaction reveals that she is already on the verge of believing this thing, and doing what he says. This makes Satan’s plan easier because Eve is already weak, and she is very interested in him.
