Incense his ire/ For such a petty trespass:

Satan is using his own knowledge of God’s wrath as a tactic because he is taking advantage of the fact that Eve has not yet had to experience this wrath.  He goes on to try to make Eve believe this is a small or “petty” thing and that God would not use his wrath for something that small, when in fact it is the one thing God has asked them not to do.  Which warps his reasoning that this is small and Eve probably should have seen that. Incense also gives a greater affect for a reader because most people associate Hell with fire and burning and it not only means to inflame with wrath but also to set on fire and burn.  Trespass is also a significant word because Satan is referring to it as something small when he by being in the garden is doing it now and the result of that will be Sin by man for the first time.
