Shall be shut to man, which to beast/ Is open?

            Satan is putting doubt in Eve’s mind by trying to make her pick apart God’s reasoning.  Why would God forbid something to Eve whom he created after his own likeness but allow an animal to experience eating of the fruit.  Satan also refers to himself as a beast which comes across as meaning something vulgar compared to a man(human being).  This makes Satan’s argument seem all the more valid because it seems ridiculous that an insignificant beast would be allowed to do something Eve is forbidden to do.
