Experimental Modal Analysis - A Simple Non-Mathematical Overview
Here is a copy of the notes that I use for the 3 hour overview of modal analysis for the
Young Engineer Program at IMAC21 Jan 2003
- these notes have a good collection of all the color graphics that I typically use to explain various aspects of modal related topics
PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS
Project 1 employs peak pick technique to identify modal characteristics
Project 2 requires hand calculations to determine modal characteristics
The scripts PATTATTB and PA_055 can be used to generate these FRFs
Project 3 impact measurements on a plate like structure
Project 4 Project 4 (and Project 6) concern Modal Parameter Estimation and are to be submitted as one report.
Project 6 Project 6 (and Project 4) concern Modal Parameter Estimation and are to be submitted as one report.
The STAR TTA file are contained in star_tta_files.zip this zip file - keep your own floppy copy for curvefitting.
Project 5 is an extension to Project 3 to show a previous set of data on just the two plate system.
The STAR plate impact project files are contained in Impact_plate_star_data.zip this zip file - keep your own floppy copy for curvefitting.
Graham Project 7 experimental modal tests
Shaw / Gur Project 7 experimental modal tests and advanced data manipulation
VanZandt / Wirkkala Project 7 experimental modal tests and advanced data manipulation
ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION
This section contains material that has been already handed
out in class or is only available in electronic format. Most of the material here
has been prepared in Adobe PDF format.
This section will be developed as the semester progresses.
Syllabus for ME 22.516 (old)
Lectures and Projects is a list of
the lectures scheduled for the semester (old)
Notes are handed out in class along with the Overview of Experimental Modal Analysis writeup. There is also a CD with additional material provided (maybe but voice annotated notes are available). There are some additional reference notes available on the Dynamic Systems homepage 22.451 Dynamic Systems and the Vibrations homepage 22.457/550 Vibrations that may be of interest.
