Research Paper
Research is new. The things that scientists are doing in research have very seldomly been done before. One of the most important facets of research is the sharing of results with the community to get their input, good or bad. The results of research are published in scientific journals. There are a wide range of journals, each with its own range of topics.
Scientists do not publish in textbooks. The most up-to-date textbook will contain research 3-4 years old for example.
Scientists do not publish on the web. The web does not have a peer review system.
This will be a team project. The team will write a paper on a current satellite mission that is performing remote sensing of atmospheres.
Timeline: Papers are due 3 November, 2014
You will need to search the literature and collect journal articles describing the mission. This is in addition to the NASA or ESA web site describing the mission.
The team will write a paper on the mission (10 pages maximum) describing the mission,
the instruments, what has been accomplished, etc. with a clear focus on remote sensing of
atmospheric constituents.
The team will then make a half-hour presentation to the class and take questions.
Presentations are ~ 30 minutes followed by questions. The presentations will start 10 November, 2014.
