Sean
Collins received a BS in Exercise
Physiology in 1992, a MS
in Physical Therapy in 1994, and a
ScD in Ergonomics in 2003 from from
the University of Massachusetts
Lowell. His dissertation was awarded
the Lorin Kerr Award for innovation
in ergonomics research for
developing novel methods of
assessing the physiological
consequences of
occupational stress.
After
two years of adjunct teaching in
Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy at
UML, Sean
started as an instructor in the
Department of Physical Therapy in September
1998, becoming Assistant
Professor in 2000, and Associate
Professor in 2006. In serving the UMass
community Sean is a Faculty Senator, serves on the Undergraduate
Policy Committee and is the General
Education Coordinator for the
UMass Lowell General Education
Program.
Sean is
a member of the American Association
for the Advancement of Science,
American Scientific
Affiliation, American Physical
Therapy Association, American
College of Sports Medicine, National
Strength and Conditioning
Association and the
Philosophy of Science Association. He serves the scientific
community as a reviewer for several
journals (Physical Therapy Research
International, Cardiopulmonary
Physical Therapy Journal, Medical
Science Monitor, Annals of
Behavioral Medicine, American
Journal of Cardiology); and is on
the Editorial Board of the
Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy
Journal.
He is
the author of several peer reviewed
publications, has presented at
local, national, and international
conferences and is the author of a
Cardiac System chapter in the Acute
Care Handbook for Physical
Therapists, edited by Jaime Paz and
Michelle Panik, a chapter
on Cardiopulmonary Anatomy for
Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, a
text edited by William DeTurk and
Lawrence Cahalin.
