Dear Steve,

Matt Carroll, a Boston Globe reporter, is doing a story on pedophile priests in organizations within the Church such as the Salesians.  He is wondering if you would be able to provide some background information.  He is not looking for specifics.  If you are willing to talk to him. he can be reached via e-mail at mcarroll@globe.com or at 617-929-7375.  I told him that I didn't know if you could talk to him, but that I would ask.

The Globe and the D.A.'s around here are not giving up on this story any time soon.

I hope that you are well.

Thanks,

Susan

Susan,

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. As you probably saw in
today's story on BC High, we are wading into the waters of the religious
orders.

Matt Carroll

 Hi Matt,

Here's a statement by Father Thomas Dunne, the  Director of the Youth
Ministry, on the role of the Salesians in the Archdiocese  of Boston. I
thought it was interesting because it emphasizes the  Salesians' efforts to
carry their work into all of the parishes in the  Archdiocese.

I hope that you don't mind my remarks on the  abortion aspect of Father
Nugent's story. Like most victims, I am  extremely reluctant to dwell on
such details. Also, I really believe that  focusing on the institutional
side of the story--the 40% problem--will enable a  great many victims to
come forward and get help.

Thanks,

Susan

Susan,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. It's benn very crazy here. I
don't mind the remarks about abortion at all. In fact, it looks now as tho
there might not as much interest in the abortion story as I thought.
Unfortunatelyt, that means I don't have an "in" to doing the Fr Nugent
story.
