About:

Shehong Chen is originally from China and received her MA in International Politics and PhD in History in the 1980s and 1990s from the University of Utah. Since 1997, Shehong has been teaching courses related to modern China and US history/foreign relations in the Department of History at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Shehong's earlier research interests were in Chinese American History, which resulted in the publications of a book titled Being Chinese, Becoming Chinese American and several papers including “Reconstructing the Chinese American Experience in Lowell, Massachusetts, 1870s-1970s.” Her most recent research into the transformation of rural China led to the publication of Daughter of Good Fortune: A Twentieth-Century Chinese Peasant Memoir by University of Washington Press in spring 2015.
