SENIOR RESEARCH:

The objective of this research is to develop an analytical method to measure the forms of metals in equilibrium with natural organic substances.  The solution were analyzed using a 200 MHz Bruker DRX solution phase Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer.  A water suppression technique was utilized in our lab and has shown good results in our previous studies.  In implementing this technique, a solution of Copper (II) perchlorate hexahydrate was dissolved in deionized water and diluted with DMSO-d6.  Copper concentration studied were 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00 mM.  EDTA was also used as a model compound for natural organic matter.
