How fargo thy sweet converse and love so dearly joined. 9:908-909
Fargo- to continue without. To go on in desperation.
Converse- to exchange thought and opinions in speech. To carry on an exchange similar to conversation.
Joined- to put forth in close association or relationship.
In this line, Adam is tells Eve that he would not be able to go without her conversation or her love. They have become “dearly joined” in their relationship. He has become accustomed to having her around and doing things with her. These things have a lot of meaning for Adam, and he could not give them up. Milton also may have meant that they are dearly joined in a higher sense. Because of his love for her, Adam may have no choice whether or not to sin. When she Ate the fruit, she made the decision for both of them. He would never be able to refuse.
