How art thou lost, how on a sudden lost. 9:900
In this section, Adam tells Eve that she is lost. He probabally means that she is lost of God’s grace from sinning. Milton uses the word “lost” twice to reiterate that the sin has been done, and that Eve can not undo that for her. He also wants to make clear that she is lost of her innocence as well. She has chosen to act selfishly, and is now lost from Adam. If he desires to find her, he must sin himself.
