Transgress the strict forbiddance, 9:903

Transgress according to the OED means to go beyond the prescribed or set limits, and the strict forbiddance in this tense refers to the eating of the forbidden fruit.  In this line, Adam is asking Eve how she could go against the word of God and eat from the only tree she is not supposed to.  He is upset, and knows that violating this strict forbiddance will eventually cause her death.
