The FOURTH Annual UMass Lowell Foster Care Awareness Campaign
will kick off on
Monday, April 12
from 11:00-12:30
in Room 222, O’Leary Library,
61 Wilder St. on the UMass Lowell South Campus.
We will engage in a month long shoe drive
and hold a closing ceremony on May 12 as part of
Join us on April 12 to hear panelists from the UMass Lowell Department of Psychology, Casey Family Services , and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to learn more about the children and teens in foster care, how the system works, and career paths in child welfare.
In 2007 we had a shirt display. We collected over 100 pair of new shoes in 2008 and 2009. Again this year, we are collecting new shoes, each pair to represent a number of children in foster care in Massachusetts. At the end of the event we will donate the shoes we have collected to child welfare agencies involved in the foster care system for distribution to children in care. Our goal is to acquire a pair of new shoes for each child in foster care in Massachusetts--that's over 8000 pair of shoes!
How close can YOU get us to our goal??
We will accept donations until May 12
Checks should be made payable to UMass Lowell/FCAD and Donations of new sneakers--any size--can be delivered to the
UMass Lowell Psychology Department, Mahoney Hall 110A or UMass Lowell Honors Program, Southwick Hall 320
How the raffle for I-Tunes, Mambo Grill, and Pearl Jam tickets works:
Attend the April 12 information session and complete a feedback form to get THREE FREE raffle tickets
Thereafter: One raffle ticket for every $2 donation or three for $5 or Equivalent New Shoe donation (bring store receipt for price verification) to receive one raffle ticket for every $2 spent on the shoes (and, yes, we round up!)
Winners announced at our closing ceremony on May 12
