Hello! I'll be teaching two courses this spring in the Criminal Justice program,

• Issues in Technology and Criminal Justice (44.493)

I'm really excited to have a chance to work with you. I hope you find my courses informative, stimulating, provocative -- and fun.

By way of introduction, after an award-winning career in corporate crisis management, government, and internet strategy, I became a homeland security strategist after 9/11. In part, I was drawn to the field by complaints that officials had "failed to connect the dots," an area where my intuitive, creative approach to problem solving always helped me excel.

Since then, I've:

• earned a reputation as a leader in creative homeland security strategies,  concentrating on the issues of:informing and empowering the public, creative use of technology (especially the billions of dollars worth of advanced mobile communications devices that the public routinely carries daily) and win-win public-private collaborations.
  
• created the only easy-to-search comprehensive data base on personal anti-terror measures, designed specifically for rapid access via handheld devices. 
  
• created a strategy to involve the general public in terrorism prevention and response, smart mobs for homeland security which Blogging the President 2004 said was "closer to a 'new politics' way of organizing a government service than anything I've seen."
  
• been acknowledged as the world's leading homeland security blogger. CIO.com recently said of my  blog:  "Google 'homeland security blog' and security consultant W. David Stephenson's site tops the list. If you like blogs that are updated nearly every day, Stephenson is your man, providing links and analysis of current homeland security topics." I have also been nominated for the Koufax Award for best single-issue progressive blog.
