Western Civilization Fall 2012
Response Paper: Due on Discussion Fridays 12 points each
On certain Fridays you will turn in a 1½ to 2 page Response Paper (RP).
The purpose of the RP is to confirm that you have engaged the primary sources and help you think through the readings by answering one of the Review Questions listed immediately after one of the weekly readings in the Perspectives of the Past (PP) book.
For example: Here is the reading Assignment for Week 2
WC 16-21 PP 24-29: Code of Hammurabi |
WC 22-35 PP 32-38: Instruction of Ptah-Hotep |
Select ONE of the Readings to analyze: either Code of Hammurabi) or Instructions of Ptah-Hotep and answer a one of the questions (on pg. 21 or 38.) Your answer should include material from the Reading and from the lecture, textbook, and other primary sources to ground your observations; no need for secondary sources. Please make reference to specific readings in you RP by using drop-down footnotes in order to save space. You may refer to your papers during the Friday Discussion, as we talk about the texts and issues.
Format:
- double spaced
- 12 point font
- one inch margins (top and bottom and sides)
- NO COVER PAGE
- Print front/back if possible
- “drop-down” footnotes
- proper citation style (see footnote below)
To insert drop-down footnotes in MS Word: place the cursor at the end of the sentence you wish to reference. Go to the “References” tab. Select “AB1 Insert Footnote.” This will automatically place a numbered footnote at that location. This system will also re-organize all numbers as you work through the text.
