COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course, which is a year course, is intended for students whose study of first-year college French is recent, as well as for students with at least three years of high-school French, and who wish to  - or must - continue their study of the language and enhance their skills. It includes an active and systematic review of grammatical structures, oral comprehension and production. Your instructor, whose native language is French, will make a deliberate effort to speak French slowly and clearly, using English as little as possible, except when explaining finer points of grammar.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The emphasis of 211 will be a systematic review grammar, vocabulary build up and reading comprehension. Its 50.212 sequence, based on the viewing of French films, will emphasize the cultural aspect of the course and encourage active interaction.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

A. ATTENDANCE AND CLASSROOM COURTESY:
Class begins promptly at 11:00. Attendance is mandatory (30% of final grade) and it is your responsibility to be punctual. Your professor reserves the right to deduct ten points per absence for two or more absences during the semester. Unavoidable or emergency absences will be considered on an individual basis.  A bon entendeur, salut!
N.B.: Please avoid coming to class late and leaving early as it is a distraction to the rest of the class. Cell phones will be turned off before class begins. 

PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP TESTS PERMITTED IN THIS CLASS.

C. EVALUATION:
There will be five tests and a final exam, which cannot be made up.
Your course grade will be based on the  five tests taken as scheduled (50%), your active attendance and participation (30%) and a final exam (20%) taken on the assigned day.

Grading sytem is as follows:   A = 94-100;  A - = 90-93  B+ =  87-89;  B = 83-86; B- =  80-82;  C+ =77-79; C = 73-76; C - = 70-72; D+ = 67-69; D = 63-66; D- = 60-62; F < 60.
