JOHN YURCAK - EDUCATIONAL & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

 

John has been a police officer with the Nashua, New Hampshire Police Department since 1995. He is currently assigned as a Patrol Sergeant in the Uniform Field Operations Bureau. His past assignments have included the Domestic Violence Unit and the Detective Bureau. Additionally, he serves as a Crime Scene Unit Supervisor, as well as the Team Leader for the Tactical Marksman/Observer (TMO) Unit of the department's Special Reaction Team (SRT).  As a member of the SRT he has been involved in numerous critical incidents, both in Nashua and surrounding communities, to include the search for Boston Marathon bomber suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.  He is a past President of the New Hampshire Police Association.

He has also served as an infantry and communications officer in the United States Marine Corps since 1988, and has served in Japan, South Korea, The Philippines, Norway, Estonia, Canada, Iraq, Germany, Senegal, Mali, Uganda, Ukraine, Spain, and several locations in the United States. While in Iraq, he headed Iraqi Police reconstruction efforts in the western portion of the country.

 

He is currently a Colonel and is assigned as a Senior International Affairs Analyst, Center for Applied Strategic Learning, National Defense University.

 

He was previously assigned as the Marine Forces North (MARFORNORTH) Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer (EPLO) to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region II (NY/NJ/PR/USVI).  While in this assignment he supported numerous United Nations General Assemblies, the 2012 Republican National Convention, and was the Mission Assignment Manager for Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy.

 

His other past assignments have included supporting the Trans-Sahara Counter-Terrorism Partnership (Operation Enduring Freedom: Trans-Sahara), the Department of Defense Military-to-Military Program, and the Department of State African Contingency Operations Training Assistance (ACOTA) Program.

 

His military schools have included:
