"The Art of Searching the Web"

Learn How To...

Change a Web Browser's Default Search Engine

When you type some keywords in the Address bar of a Web browser, the Web browser starts up a default search engine (such as Yahoo!) You can change the default search engine by completing the following 4 simple steps:

Internet Explorer:

  1. With your browser running, click on the "Search" tool (looks like a magnifying glass) at the top of your screen.

  2. Click: "Change Search Defaults".

  3. You will see a list of Search Providers to pick from. To change the default search provider, highlight the desired one, and click Set Default.

  4. If you would like to add a different search provider, click on the "Find more providers..." link and click on the provider you are interested in.  It will automatically be added to your list of Search Providers.

Once you complete the above steps, attempt to perform a search. (For example: "President George W. Bush". You will now see your updated search engine being used.
