Below is a list of topics which may appear on the hourly exam. Not all topics listed will be on the exam, and some topics which are not on the list but included in the homework/reading assignments may appear.

Chapter 16:
General equilibrium concepts and problems.
Using Q to predict the direction of a reaction, writing equilibrium constant
expressions for heterogeneous and homogeneous equilibria; Setting up table
of concentrations and solving for equilibrium concentrations, or K; Le Chatelier's Principle.
Chapter 19:
Relationship between delta G and Q or equilibrium constants. (Formulas will be provided)
Chapter 17:
Strong and weak acids and bases; conjugate acids and bases; Reactions with water, pH of solutions, polyprotic acids, pH of salt solutions (both qualitative and quantitative). Reactions of ions with water.
Chapter 18:
buffers - Calculating the pH of solutions with a weak acid and its conjugate base, you may also be asked how to make a buffer with a specific pH (given a Ka table), including the relative amounts of acid and conjugate base. You will not be given the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation. Calculating the pH when a small amount of strong acid or strong base is added to a buffer.
The remainder of the material from Chapter 18 will be covered on your Final (Exam III).
