William Randolph Hearst purchased the magazine in 1905, and included within its content serial fiction and novels.
Helen Gurley Brown was hired as Editor-in-Chief in 1966 after her book "Sex and the Single Girl" became a bestseller in 1962
She was hired to try to revive the struggling magazine by testing her format.
She succeeded, and remained at the helm for 32 years before becoming the 
Editor-in-Chief of International Editions, which now boasts a growing and successful franchise of 36 editions sold in over 41 countries, and is the largest magazine franchise in the world*
