Tim McKenna

The Star Wars Trilogy has been released for the first time on DVD a few weeks ago. As almost everyone knows, George Lucas's epic trilogy is one of the most well known adventures know to man. Many of our generation grew up with the Han Solo and his sidekick Chewbacca, Princess Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, the loveable droids C-3PO and R2-D2, and Darth Vader. Although many do not remember the first time they saw the movies for the first time, they have always been near and dear. One student recalls that "it feels like so long ago. But it's been one of my favorites ever since."

Fans across the world have been waiting for the day the trilogy would be released on DVD and now it has arrived. "I'm very excited. This is something that I have been waiting for, for quite some time," says one student.

When Lucas released the trilogy in 1997, he digitally enhanced the original versions. The scene with Jabba the Hutt in "A New Hope" was added. This time round, Lucas has made even more changes and enhancements thanks to improved CGI. Lucas has made the films the movies he wanted the some 25 years ago.

An article on CNN.com reports "Five major changes in the 'Star Wars' DVD." On of the most notable changes come in "Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back." The scene in which Darth Vader talks to the Emperor; in the original version, the Emperor is voiced by New Zealand native Clive Revill and acted by a robed woman. In the DVD Ian McDiarmid, who plays the Emperor in the original "Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" and Supreme Chancellor Cos Palpatine/Darth Sidious in the prequel trilogy, replaces the original Emperor.

The very noticeable change come in the grand final of "Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" Remember in the closing scene, you see Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker standing together. Well, Sebastian Shaw has been replaced by Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. Among other changes listed on CNN.com include the further computer enhancement of Jabba the Hutt in "A New Hope;" replacing the voice of Boba Fett with Temura Morrison, prequel Jango Fett.

So, if you are a die-hard Star Wars fan or not, the latest rendition of the classic trilogy is a must have this holiday season.
