Big Brother Pushing the Envelope
Mike Geezil

In the recent years after 9/11 the public has heard much about the Patriot act. This act has effected our travels as well as our way of living. Who hasn't been through the long lines in airports, while they scan and check everyone's bags. But has big brother gone too far? Is our civil liberties being swooped up beneath us? Recently the government is debating weather or not to have access to every library book an American citizen takes out. "We believe in the privacy of the patron," said Patricia Noreau library directory here at Umass Lowell. She has been in command for about two years at the Umass Lowell library. "As a general rule we don't devulge that type of information." The local staff is standing up for everyone's civil liberties, and oppose such type of behavior in our libraies at Ulowell. If perhaps government agents wanted to look at a students library recored, Patircia would call a attorney, and take it form there. For now, we are all safe and protected here a Umass Lowell thanks to our local library staff. But until that time comes we all can take out books of our liking without big brother looking over our shoulders.
