This course complements course
#4.111, Introduction to Industrial Security, an introduction
to the planning, organization, and management of industrial businesses,
and government security resources. T
Security Management addresses
the basic interdisciplinary principles of security management,
including:
- planning
- budgeting
- organizing
- staffing
- directing
- controlling.
This course will also cover
cyber-security, marketing security services to management, risk
management, civil and criminal liability, and labor relations.
Students will gain an overview
of:
- the skills required to manage
a private security firm
- the laws and regulations
governing security firms
- the potential to gain a competitive
advantage through better management practices.
Students will be required
to:
- participate in class, through
class discussions and/or the online chat area (20% of grade.
- pass two examinations: a
mid-term (March 11) and a final.
- The midterm will be 30% of your
total grade, and the final, 50%.Grading will be as follows: A=95-100;
AB=89-94; B=84-89; BC=78-83; C=72-77; CD=66-71; D=60-65; below
59 =F. There will be no retakes of examinations due to poor
grades. Make-up examinations will only be allowed in cases
of medical and other emergencies.

attend all scheduled classes. If you must miss a class, please
e-mail the instructor with your reason for doing so. Attendance
is an important component of this course, which will directly
affect your final grade. The instructor reserves the right to
drop any student from the class due to excessive absences (more
than four unexcused).
