Cyberterrorism:
FBI definition: ""cyber
terrorism is the premeditated, politically motivated attack against
information, computer systems, computer programs, and data which
result in violence against noncombatant targets by sub national
groups or clandestine agents." Can either be domestic or
foreign.
What
changes in the economy and society have made cybercrime such a
critical issue now?
Representative scenarios:
- target airline passengers through
airport's air traffic control tower .Hack into the tower's computer
system, adding false information about the plane's location,
speed, etc., causing the air traffic controller to give pilot
wrong information. Plane crashes
- Place computerized bombs throughout
city. Bombs transmit code to each other, Can be detonated by
a timer or a computer.
- Disrupt bank software, interrupt
financial transactions, hack into stock market, deleting and
changing stock prices. Causes rapid decrease in stock prices,
loss of market capitalization, and destabilization of market.
Public loses faith in economic systems and economic destabilization
results.
- Hack into pharmacy chain's computer
network, change information regarding drug interaction information.
Many elderly receive different medications, have negative combined
effects. Many become ill , some die.
Cybercrimes against individuals
Includes:
- Pornography: trafficking, distribution,
posting, and dissemination of obscene material including pornography,
indecent exposure, and child pornography.
- Cyber-Harassment: harassment
of a person or persons through electronic mail, use of websites,
or chat programs.
- Cyber-Stalking
- Identity Theft
Cybercrimes against property:
- Hacking
- Cracking
unauthorized access to a computer or network.
- Virii
creation and dissemination of harmful computer programs.
- Software Piracy
copying and distributing of legally or illegally obtained software.
